History of Slot machines
Slot machines (roller) are 111 years this year! Indeed, Charles August Fey invented in 1898-99 and who filed the patent in 1905 of the first roller machine called the Liberty Bell. August Fey

The same year, Fey and his colleague Theodore Holtz left the California Electric Works Company to create their own factory which would be the competitor of the one they were working for and decided to make telephone, telegraph and electrical equipment. Tournament at the pub
As usual, I play poker with a friend beside the Tooting Bec Station in a pub called the “the Bec Bar”. Yesterday I have finished 11th but I did a few mistakes and it cost me a place at the final table.
At the beginning of the tournament, we were 40 players and I know some of them, so it is much easier to play against players you know because you know also how they play but it is the same for them, they know how you play.
Yesterday, I play quite ok but I made some mistakes. I used to raise on people they have just a few chips left. And, it works quite well yesterday. I play with a ace and a king and I saw that a player had just a few chips left so I raised enough to push him to go all in. He had a king too and a 10. On the flop, it was a king – 7 – 5. I am still the winner. The turn is a king and the river is a 8. I have a three of the kind like my opponent but my kicker was much better. The thing is, you have to get the best 5 cards ever to win the pot and it is quite rare to see some players sharing the pot but it can happen.
But, now, I will talk about my mistake. First mistake: after 1 hour of game, I received a pocket aces. I raised, a guy called me. We saw the flop: 5-6- 10. I am the first one who had to talk of course. So I raised 500 chips. He did the same, he raised but 1000 chips. Ok he has a pair of 5 or 6, it is too obvious but I was expecting an ace on the river or the turn. I called (I was much richer than him and I knew he won’t play if he had nothing, but sometimes luck can be with you). The luck wasn’t there. And he won around 3000 chips of mine.
Second mistake: it left 16 players and I am one of them. The blind is quite high now. The minimum is 500 and the big one is 1000. Of course people of playing when they get good cards but when they play, it is all in so you don’t have a lot of possibilities call or fold. I receive a king and a 8 same suit, I knew that is was great cards, I was the big blind: 1200 chips. It left me something about 1600 more after putting the big blind. A guy raised 2000 chips. I was eating some peanuts at the same time and when it was my turn to talk everyone looks at me, and of course, a peanut fell off. Everyone laughed and of course me too, but after that I couldn’t be serious anymore in front of the player so I decided to fold. He got a pocket queen and on the flop: king-6 – 10. I wanted to play but the fact to lose my serious in front other player didn’t give me the courage to do it. Mistake and be humble, your strength!

Tuesday night at the pub as usual
Yesterday, I went to the pub to play poker. With a friend, we used to play poker once a week and we found a nice place in Tooting Bec where we can play poker with nice people. Most of the players are from England, most of them but some of them like me are from different countries such as France, South Africa, and Germany.
The poker tournament starts at 8 pm and if you want to play at the tournament, you have to pay a fee of £5. You start the tournament with 1500 chips, but in this pub, you can get more chips by buying a shooter at the bar. It cost £2.50 and you get 500 chips more. It’s just one per person and the barman knows everyone.
It is already the beginning and, as usual, it is quite difficult to have everyone around the table. You have 4 table of 8 players, sometimes 9 players (too many registration but it means also more money for the winners). To know on which table you are playing, you have to pick up a card and, after that, it depends on the suit you have picked up to determinate your table. The person you picked up the ace is the dealer, this is the rule.
Around my table: I’m the only lady around the table, actually on 40 players, yesterday, it was 5 women not more. The organizer was sitting down just beside me and he is quite good, he used to play online and told us some good and bad hands that he played today.
Three young guys are there and you can quickly guess that most of them are beginner and sometimes is quite easy to get their money. A young guy, a ginger guy raised 400 chips when the big blind was 100 but his friend went all in. He folds so the table just make a noise like “booooooo” for fun. But he was so pissed off that he told us that it was forbidden in poker to do that. Just after that, we told him that it is forbidden too to leave his chips in the felt, he didn’t appreciate at all. These kinds of players are quite funny actually.
After that, you have the expert, he knows exactly how to play but yesterday night, he couldn’t play properly. He told me that it was unlucky. And actually, he lost against me. But the good thing is (or not).
You have also the great guy, he knows the rules and know how to raise but he is also very friendly and don’t care about the tournament, he wants to win but if he doesn’t, it is not so important.
The atmosphere of the tournament was great and I think it is a great way to meet so good poker players and have fun. I finished 11th but the big blind of 1200 killed me and I made some mistake that didn’t help me.
